Description :
Bintu Umar lives in Maiduguri, Nigeria. After having her leg amputated, she was able to be fitted with an artificial limb at the physical rehabilitation center opened in that city by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). This has enabled her to get around again and to perform some domestic tasks to help her parents.
Until recently, persons with disabilities had to travel hundreds of miles to get support. Thanks to funding from the "humanitarian impact bond," the ICRC opened a physical rehabilitation center in Maiduguri in 2019. Thousands of people like Bintu can now benefit from essential services close to home.
