Description :
Thousands of people who fled conflict in north Shan State remain displaced β a decade later. Even now, it can be hard for people who have been displaced to find a living.
Communities living in Northern Shan State are still facing difficulties earning a living.
Sometimes, they work for day jobs but this is not enough to support the whole families. Their main needs are rice and financial assistance, as their current income is not enough.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) recently visited Kutkai and Lashio townships to work with communities in search of solutions, to help them find ways to support themselves.
βThe difference between this community and others is that this one has been displaced for many years. That's why their main need is regular income. That's why we are helping families to earn an income so they can support themselves,β said Aide Nont from ICRC Lashio office.
In 2022, the ICRC provided nearly 400 families in northern Shan with agricultural support β fruit trees, seeds, groundnuts, farming tools and fertiliser.
At the ICRC, our goal is to ensure that people from all communities affected by conflict have the means to support themselves and each other.
