Description :
Jhonny Rivas grew up playing soccer with friends in Venezuela. At age 10, however, a health problem prevented him from walking. “I felt so sad that I didn't even go out the front door,” he says.
In June 2022, Jhonny migrated with his mother to Brazil in search of better prospects. He was received at one of the shelters of the Operation “Acolhida” in Boa Vista – and his life took on a new meaning: swimming.
Today, at 16, he smiles when he shows off the two bronze medals he won at the 2022 Brasilia School Paralympics.
Jhonny has been in touch with other family members in Venezuela through International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) restoring family links program. That's how loved ones know that Jhonny is already a star in Brazil.
