In May 26th, 2018 in Kyiv, Ukraine, took place the most significant football event of the year so far. Thousands of football fans from all over the world at the Champions League final
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) took over UEFA’s #EqualGame dome. It offered fans the chance to play a game of their own.
Dozens of opponents took us up on the offer. Competition was fierce.
Then something happened that changed the game. Football matches can be replayed. There are no replays in war. When a human being is killed, they are gone The ICRC team has asked the players what the war means to them and if does the war need rules?
Even war has rules. They ban attacks on civilians. They protect infrastructure and hospitals.
The ICRC is working in Eastern Ukraine to ensure the laws of war are respected.
