Mg. Shar Mwe Hla is from Kyaing Tong, Shan State, Myanmar. Due to the motorbike accident, he lost his leg. “When I arrived at the physical rehabilitation centre, there were many people like me. Some of them were even worse than me. Everyone talked to each other. They told me what happened to them, and I told them what happened to me. I had a good time there. I gained strength and became strong again,” he mentioned. Through ICRC’s micro-economic initiative programme, he opened a bakery shop at his home. The support included the cost of machines and materials to make the cake. Shar Mwe Hla was one of many people living with disabilities in Shan State with whom the ICRC works, supporting them to participate fully in society and earn sustainable livelihoods.
