Description : There are over 120 armed conflicts in the world. And it’s increasing. The number of non-international armed conflicts has more than tripled since 2000. Currently there are more than 60 States and 120 non-State armed groups directly involved in armed conflicts. As armed groups split into several factions, conflicts become more complex. Armed conflicts are taking place in around 35 countries. In many countries, conflicts are protracted. This means, that sometimes those armed conflicts last for decades, making entire generations live through war. These trends are worrying. Respecting international humanitarian law alleviates people's suffering caused by wars.
