Birhane Haile, 17, was seriously injured while rescuing seven children he had caught playing with unexploded ordnance. He lost a leg and several fingers on both hands. With the support of the ICRC's physical rehabilitation team, he received a prosthesis and underwent rehabilitation to learn to walk again. However, the psychological wounds linked to this tragic experience remain deep.
