Description :
In Madagascar and many other African countries, too many prisons still date back to colonial times. To prepare prisoners for their return to society, these outdated and overcrowded prisons need to be replaced. In the meantime, or where this is not possible, they must be maintained to ensure decent conditions of detention. The ICRC supports African states in these efforts. For their benefit, in early October 2024, it launched the “Prison Maintenance Guide”.
