Description :
Syrians receive only 2 to 4 hours of electricity a day, which affects all aspects of daily life. Electricity is only one of the services failing in the country; it is essential to the smooth running of other vital services such as water supply, water treatment, healthcare and food production. These systems are interconnected, so that a failure in any one of them causes disruption in other areas. Thirteen years of crisis and conflict have had devastating effects on water, sanitation and electricity networks, making reconstruction extremely difficult, if not impossible, for Syrians. In addition to day-to-day difficulties, the lack of electricity seriously compromises people's ability to meet their basic needs. The majority of Syrians are dependent on humanitarian aid and must devote a large proportion of their resources to acquiring electricity, or do without it altogether.
