Description :
Ari Kaka Gaptia, aged 10, is from Diffa, a region in the east of the country bordering Nigeria and Chad, which has been in the grip of a security crisis for several years.
One night during Ramadan, as three suicide bombings rocked a neighbourhood in the capital of Manga, an explosive device hit Ari and his family. He lost his right leg when he was just three years old.
Ari received a prosthesis and underwent rehabilitation to learn to walk again. The ICRC supports the orthopaedic centre in Zinder by providing equipment, training staff and funding certain operations.
