Description :
Three canals in Tarin Kôt are in urgent need of repair: Kakrak, Sajawell and Saran. The damage is currently depriving local communities of water, as some sections of the canals have been completely destroyed. If this situation persists, local people will not be able to grow anything in the next agricultural season. Fruit trees are already dying back, and communities are considering relocating. In recent years, farmers have only been able to cultivate a quarter of their land due to the lack of water, which has considerably reduced their wheat production compared with the average. Although the communities have solid experience in maintaining their canals, the recent floods have caused such damage that clean-up is now beyond their capabilities. According to their estimates, it would take 200 workers a month to properly clean the Kakrak canal, build 250 retaining walls and rehabilitate the diversion point.
