Description :
Maite Zamacona, a volunteer with the Swedish Red Cross, explains that this is the company's third visit to Armenia. Her team is providing training in collaboration with the ICRC, aimed at supporting the development of local actors working with released prisoners of war and people affected by violence. This time, two parallel courses are being offered: exposure therapy and physiotherapy.
Fanny Buttigieg, who works with the ICRC's mental health and psychosocial support programme (MHPSS), says she is delighted to be working with the Swedish Red Cross and to benefit from their expertise in the recovery of torture victims and people traumatised by war. She hopes to see closer collaboration with local health services working with people affected by violence.
Psychologist Ani Azizyan explains that the training proved particularly useful because it covered both the fundamental principles and technical practices. It enabled us to understand the nuances, share experiences and make progress in a caring and collaborative environment.
According to Armine Hovhannisyan, a psychologist and lieutenant-colonel, these sessions with varied content are very useful in her work with beneficiaries.
For Khachatur Gasparyan, Director of the Psychological Centre, the training has enabled them to acquire new skills for their day-to-day work.
Aspet Kelkhacharyan, a physiotherapist, explains that this is the first time he has taken part in this type of training, and that the subject matter is interesting. Trauma does a lot of damage, but these exercises help to release that tension.
