Field team leader Daniela Izquierdo notes that, six months into the crisis, the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) has continued to rise. Faced with this increase, the challenges for medical teams are numerous. Schools have closed, as have many hospitals. People are deprived of access to essential services. “Yet when you look at our Haitian colleagues and the struggle they face every day, you think there's still hope,” she adds.
The ICRC calls on those involved to respect the medical mission, protect the entire population and maintain access to essential services.
