Description :
In many armed conflicts around the world, the plight of missing and forcibly disappeared people, and of their families is a silent tragedy – a wound that lingers far beyond the battlefield and long after the guns fall silent.
Cordula Droege, ICRC Head of the Legal Division, points out that the International Humanitarian Law, or IHL, first seeks to prevent people from going missing. It also provides a lifeline, offering processes to account for these individuals, bring solace to their loved ones and ensure accountability.
