Description :
Myanmar's Head of Operations, Anthony Abi Nader, explains that the 7.7 magnitude earthquake affected the regions of Mandalay, Sagaing, Nay Pyi Taw and southern Shan. More than a thousand people have been killed and the health system is unable to meet the needs.
This region had already been particularly affected by the armed conflict. In collaboration with the Myanmar Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the ICRC has provided assistance to vulnerable communities in Mandalay and Taunggyi. The ICRC is focusing primarily on medical assistance, water-borne diseases and conditions in places of detention.
Tin Maung Oo, a staff member who oversees the warehouse, explains that medical supplies were transported from the ICRC delegation in Yangon to Mandalay to meet the needs of the population after the earthquake. Body bags, stretchers and modular dressing kits were sent.
