Description : The ICRC's head of delegation in Myanmar, Arnaud De Baecque, says that the earthquake affected many communities in the center of the country, which were then faced with enormous humanitarian needs. He adds that, from the outset, the ICRC mobilized its staff and Myanmar Red Cross volunteers to help communities as quickly as possible.
He concludes: "We supplied drinking water, supported hospitals and mobile clinics, distributed relief items and provided financial assistance to those sleeping rough. We have stepped up our risk-prevention programs for unexploded ordnance displaced by the earthquake. We still hope to help communities recover with dignity as quickly as possible. We are very grateful to all those who have supported this intervention with us, and will stand by the people of Myanmar until the situation recovers."
