Description :
U Thein Htun is one of many people in Myanmar displaced by armed conflict. Originally from May Gun Village in Shwe Bo Township, he was forced to flee with his sister and elderly father due to the presence of armed groups in the area. Now living as an internally displaced person (IDP) in a village in Mandalay Region, his daily life revolves around caring for his father, who has been hospitalized multiple times. On the morning of the earthquake, U Thein Htun had taken his father to a clinic in Mandalay. Just hours later, the ground shook violently. “I could barely keep my balance. I had to lie down on the ground,” he recalls. At first, some feared it was an explosion. Eventually, it became clear that a powerful earthquake had struck. Already displaced by conflict, the earthquake added another layer of trauma for U Thein Htun and his community. “We were living as IDPs. Now we were facing the fear and loss caused by the earthquake. I don’t know how to describe the feeling,” he says. In the aftermath, he tried to stay calm and support others, especially women and children, who were terrified. Today, around 30 households from his village are living in (a camp in Sintgaing township), while others have sought safety elsewhere.
