Description : International humanitarian law (IHL) guarantees children special protection during armed conflict, prohibiting their recruitment and participation in hostilities. However, in many current conflicts, children continue to be illegally recruited by armed forces or groups, exposed to violence and deprived of their fundamental rights. This phenomenon has serious consequences for children and their families. Despite these persistent violations, some parties to the conflict are taking positive steps by demobilising recruited children and releasing those who are detained, demonstrating a willingness to comply with international humanitarian law.
