The ICRC has created a new space for debates in French-speaking Africa, called the "Traveling Humanitarium," bringing together humanitarian, diplomatic, academic, and military circles at local, regional, and international levels to contribute to finding solutions to contemporary humanitarian challenges.
Under this initiative, conferences are organized in partnership with other institutions and are held in various West African cities. In 2018 and 2019, Abidjan, Ouagadougou, and Dakar hosted such events.
The first conference, held in Abidjan on December 4, 2017, was themed: "How to improve respect for international humanitarian law in protracted 21st-century conflicts? African perspectives." It was organized in partnership with Radio de la Paix.
The second conference took place in Ouagadougou on June 26, 2018, focusing on the combined impact of climate change and conflicts in the Sahel.
A third conference, held on October 17, 2018, in Dakar, addressed the theme of "Internal displacement: between security challenges and population movements in West Africa."
Event organized at the ICRC headquarters by the Law & Policy Forum unit.
