Description :
The SIrUS Project relates to the part of international humanitarian law which governs the means and methods of warfare. The project proposes that the well-documented effects of legitimate and conventional weapons should be used as a yardstick to determine what is not ‘superfluous injury or unnecessary suffering.’ Four criteria are proposed by which the effects of any weapon can be compared to those of conventional weapons. These criteria can then be used in determining whichweapons cause “superfluous injury or unnecessary suffering”.
