Description :
Tensions raised in Guadalcanal (app. 100000 inhabitants) 9 months ago between indigenous from that island (the Owale) in minority and the ones front the neighbour island of Malaita (malaitians) living in Guadalcanal sometimes since ever. End of May, the situation deteriorated seriously with several incidents which have cost the life of half a dozen of people and the disappearing of tens of them. The Gwale militants regrouped under the “ Guadalcanal revolutionary army, eRA” presented various demands to the Govermnent in hands of the Malaitians, among them the payment of indemnity for the lost of people in previous incidents, the share of political power, the resignation of some politicians, the reimbursement of the occupied lands for economical reasons by the Malaitians, and the amnesty for the Gwale militants. The majority of the Malaitians in Guadalcanal before the events were living in the capital Honiara and the Owale were mostly found in the rural areas. Actually, put at risk when not living in one of their own controlled zone, people of both of these ethnic groups are trying to flee to their original places, or on Malaita island for the Malaitians or on south coast of Guadalcanal for the Gwale.
