Description :
Thousands of enthusiastic spectators have filled the football stadium in Monrovia to applaud the South African reggae star Lucky Dube. This is the first time since the civil war broke out in 1990 that a famous singer has performed on stage in Liberia. In the belief that an artist can be more credible and convincing than any political figure, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement asked Lucky Dube to perform for the 50th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions. These treaties govern the conduct of all those who bear weapons in war and other situations of conflict. One of the songs performed by the artist is about respect for humanitarian values and for the red cross emblem.
