Description :
The 12th of August 1999 marks the day of the fiftieth anniversary of the Geneva Conventions. At a public ceremony in Geneva prominent world figures, including Kofi Annan, joined the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in issuing a Solemn Appeal, reminding the peoples, nations and governments of the world to respect the rules and regulations of the Geneva Conventions. The Solemn appeal was signed by all fourteen dignatories at a private ceremony which had taken place earlier in the day at the Hotel de Ville, Geneva.
