Description : Congo-Brazzaville is in the grip of tragedy, a forgotten war that has been wreaking havoc in the country for five years. As it grinds on, daily life has become an ordeal for hundreds of thousands of civilians. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) estimates that 500,000 people throughout the country have had to flee their homes. Tens of thousands of civilians are living precariously, many of them hiding in the forests. From July to October 1999, between one and two thousand people a day ~ sick, ill-treated and hungry thronged into Brazzaville, where they went to the homes of relatives or were housed in camps.
