Description :
Description of the ICRC's assistance operation in favour of the population of East Timor suffering from malnutrition as a consequence of the civil war. Assisted by the Indonesian Red Cross, the ICRC delivers to families of remote villages in the mountain a weekly food allowance, and a monthly allocation of soap and blankets - or as required. People suffering from illness or malnutrition also receive multivitamins and high-protein biscuits daily, in addition to the basic relief supplies. Besides the malnutrition, the medical staff also tackles the main diseases and gives the population courses on hygiene and first aid. (More information in AR 1980, p. 42)
