For the past 12 years, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been involved in the rehabilitation of water and sewage treatment facilities in Iraq after conflict and trade sanctions left the whole infrastructure of the country in ruins. The film Water and Iraq 1991 - May 2003 focuses on the ICRC's work to ensure that the population benefits from a reliable water and sewage system in order to provide a safe and healthy environment and to minimize waterborne diseases. It illustrates how, over the years, the programme in Iraq has become one of the ICRC's major involve-ments in the field of water and sanitation.
