Description : Tens of thousands of people have fled into Monrovia to escape fighting between rebel forces and the government troops of President Charles Taylor. Latest estimates put the number of IDPs (internally displaced people) who have moved into the capital at 150,000 - added to the city's million inhabitants. Thousands have found makeshift shelter in schools, empty buildings and sports stadiums. Ten kilometres south ofthe city, the Samual K Doe Stadium has been taken over by 20,000 people, surviving as best they can. In the confusion of flight, families often get split up. Particularly vulnerable are children who get separated from their parents in the chaos of crowds fleeing for safety. This is what happened to 9 year old Sando. Sando was living in Blamacee IDP Camp with her family when it was attacked at the end of June by rebels. She and her parents fled from the camp, moving towards the town of Monrovia in search of a safe haven. But on the crowded road she got lost. Sando was brought to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the main tracing agency in Monrovia, who managed to locate her family in another centre for displaced people elsewhere in the city.
