Description :
The Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea remains one of the world’s most secretive nations. Its borders with South Korea have been closed since the Korean War of the 1950s and its relations with the rest of the world are extremely limited. This isolation has denied the North Korean people standards of healthcare and technology taken for granted in much of the western world. According to official figures, thousands of disabled people in North Korea, for example, have no access to treatment and rehabilitation. However, in 2002, the Swiss-based International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was allowed to open a Rehabilitation Centre in North Korea for victims of landmines and other accidents.
