Description :
The International Committee of the Red Cross' (ICRC) regional delegation in Kyiv was set up in 1995. It covers Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova and works actively with the National Societies of those countries. At present, the ICRC and the Ukrainian Red Cross Society are working together to promote awareness of humanitarian law — particularly among teenagers, as part of the Exploring Humanitarian Law programme. Youngsters are fascinated by the problems associated with war and everyday violence, starting with what they see at school or on television. This explains the interest aroused by this programme, which uses interactive teaching methods to promote humanitarian principles. One of the key qualities of the programme is its ability to take advantage of local reality, drawing on the creativity of all those who take part. The ICRC and the National Society also work together in the field of public health by lending support to first-aid posts in Crimea and are involved in tracing people who went missing during the Second World War and putting them back in touch with their families.
