Description :
In Zalingy, Western Darfur, word has spread around, surgeons are saving lives in this hospital. It is one of the few hospitals running in the region (tree out of seven). Basic health care infrastructure has been put back on track. In the Zalingy area four clinics provide maternal child health or immunization. But access to war surgery and emergency hospital care such as gynecology, pediatric care or blood transfusion is not readily available. Two 12-year-old boys, both named Mohammed, were able to get surgical treatment for their wounds. Both are suffering from gunshot injuries. Everyday International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) surgeons and Sudanese doctors try to save the lives of people like the Mohammed boys in conflict-torn Darfur. On Sunday 28 November one of them was visited by ICRC President Jakob Kellenberger. After more than 20 years of commitment to the Sudan, the CRC believes that a neutral, impartial and independent approach is indispensable to tackle the needs of the victims on all sides of the conflict. The ICRC and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement are able to work across the front lines throughout Sudan as a result of this approach.
