Description :
The filming mission undertaken in earthquake stricken Pakistan is unique in the ICRC archives since it includes the full range of emergency work undertaken from just a few hours after the earthquake devastated the region in October 2005. The footage includes the efforts to bring in supplies of food, water, and shelter using massive helicopters, as well as by road convoy. Also covered is the establishment of a tented field hospital in Muzzafarabad, emergency first aid points high in the Jhelum valley and the evacuation of casualties for further treatment. The various news products cover the range of ICRC work to assist earthquake victims from the earliest days and the race against time to provide basic supplies and shelter before the winter set in , including: the medical airlift of aid from Geneva to Peshawar, distribution of aid, providing medical care and shelter with a focus on the work of the Japanese Red Cross, the disposal of human remains including the search for bodies among the wreckage and grieving families at the graveside in the Jhelum Valley, the work of ICRC surgeons in the Muzzafarabad tented hospital, providing water and shelter for earthquake victims and the launch of the Family Links website.
