Seeds, tools and food are stored here prior to their distribution in Burgo and neighbouring villages.
From April until June 2008, the ICRC carried out a large-scale campaign to distribute seeds and tools to farming families in Darfur. The campaign aimed at enabling communities to maintain their traditional livelihoods, and thus to avoid displacement. Last year, local economies were disrupted in several areas by fighting, lawlessness and crop failure.
Food rations were also given to each family so that they could save their crop seeds for planting instead of eating them. The campaign reached around 40.000 families, most of whom (65% of them) are located in the Jabal Marra area in North Darfur
