Description : Members of the Brazilian Red Cross joined by Rio De Janeiro ICRC Delegation staff teach first aid techniques to residents of Nova Holanda, a favela greatly affected by armed violence in Rio, located in Complexo da Maré. The 4 day first aid course is intended to equip residents with the know how to save lives in their own environment, using found materials that would be available in their every day lives. Residents are taught to react by simulating violent incidents that most of them see on a regular basis.
