Description :
Since 2012, the ICRC and Zimbabwe Prison Service (ZPS) have been working to improve the cooking capacity of kitchens in prisons through their refurbishment. Once completed, this will enhance the capacity of the prisons to timeously provide of food to inmates. Work has been completed in 10 prisons whilst it is on-going in 17 others.
The ICRC works in partnership with ZPS to monitoring conditions of treatment and detention in Zimbabwe. The ICRC's assistance aims to increase access to healthcare, improve water and sanitation infrastructure and enhance the capacity of prison authorities to meet the nutritional needs of prisoners by increasing the production of legumes and vegetables at prison farms.
