In September 2015, the ICRC conducted a study, and surveyed around 1500 donums and designed a water system with the aim to rehabilitate the agricultural water infrastructure that was damaged during the conflict in 2014. Between September and December, two concrete elevated reservoirs were constructed, each with a capacity of 125 m3.

Description : “The reservoir was totally damaged which made the irrigation of our plants extremely difficult. After the rehabilitation of the water irrigation network in my area we are again able to irrigate our crops more easily. This year I expect harvest and production will be good,” said Khalil Abu Jamea’, 83-year-old farmer from Al Qarara. The ICRC supported seven farmers to reconstruct their reservoirs and build new metallic pools to collect water for the irrigation of fields. The ICRC officially handed them back to the farmers in January 2016. Today the irrigation project enables 400 farmers to water their fields and maintain farming in the region. Moreover, the ICRC teams installed nine kilometers of water carriers and nine central water distribution points.
