Because of the continuous hard work and training for a year, the Palestinian paralympic committee successfully organized the Gaza wheelchair basketball championship, in cooperation with the municipality of Gaza and the artificial limbs and polio center, supported by the ICRC, where eight teams participated this year. The teams played in the first round four games, and the winners of this round competed to reach the final, where the Palestine Red Crescent Society and Alsalam teams qualified. The final game was strong and the competition was high, but the winner was the Palestine Red Crescent Society team. Hamed, a player in Palestine Red Crescent Society team said, “Words can barely describe our feelings. We played as a team and we trusted the strength of our players. For that, we won this year and last year as well.” Alsalam team came in the second place with one-point difference only. Ali, the captain of Alsalam team and the youngest player among all the team said, “I’m not very happy because I wanted my team to win, but I’m satisfied with our performance since the difference was only one point. Next year, we will be stronger and we will win. ”This competition is the result of the efforts put to support the clubs of the disabled people in Gaza and is part of the social inclusion, which also encourages the beneficiaries of the artificial limbs and polio center to join the sports and not to stop their lives at the amputation point. It is also part of the celebration of the international day of persons with disabilities.
