Description : The ICRC repaired 65 water systems in nine municipalities along the Samar coast, benefiting 85,000 people. While the ICRC was repairing the water infrastructure, 16 million liters of drinking water were delivered every day to 70,000 people along the Samar coast, via emergency water treatment plants and tankers. The world's worst-ever typhoon struck central Philippines on November 8 2013, making landfall with 300 km winds and 5-metre waves. Communities were left without food, electricity, water or any means of contacting their relatives.
More than 16 million people were affected. More than 6,000 died. Over 4 million were displaced. An estimated 1.14 million homes were damaged or destroyed.
