Description :
In June 2016, thousands of people were affected when heavy fighting broke out in Wau. The immediate need for protection led to the creation of the Protection of Civilians camp (PoC) in Wau, which at the time hosted more than 27,000 people. In an effort to support victims of violence as well as fighting stigma, the ICRC initiated a multidisciplinary project in the aftermaths of the clashes. The project is managed by Women Development Group (WDG) and supported by the ICRC. Many of the women have experienced hardship like losing their loved ones or being raped one or multiple times. The ICRC hopes that the way of supporting a local organization will provide sustainable support to women, also after the project ends.
