Description : ICRC trucks carrying emergency medical supplies negotiate the hazardous journey from Peshawar to Kabul. As a result of the heavy fighting between rival Mujaheddin factions in Kabul after the fall of the Najibullah government in April 1992 and the subsequent breakdown of the city's medical infrastructure, hospitals suffered severe shortages of essential medical supplies. From May onwards the ICRC organized weekly road convoys from Pheshawar, each one carrying an average of 10 tonnes of emergency medical supplies which were then distributed to health facilities in the capital .
