Description :
ICRC delegates tour the streets of Kabul during a lull in the fighting. In the months following the fall of the Najibullah government, fierce fighting broke out periodically in Kabul between rival factions vying for power. Gun battles raged in the streets and a hail of shells fell indiscriminately on the city, killing and wounding thousands. Civilians fled their homes, piling their belongings on to barrows and trucks, and streamed out of the capital seeking safer havens elsewhere.
