Description :
Extract of the annual report of the ICRC for 1986, “ […] the ICRC took part in the release of 196 foreign nationals captured by UNITA on 1 March in the region of the Andrada diamond mine (Luanda Norte province). The prisoners (nationals of the Philippines, Portugal, Angola, Germany, Britain, Canada, Cape Verde, Romania and Sao Tome) were transported to Zaire on 15 March and thence repatriated. During their period of captivity, the ICRC Tracing Agency in Angola maintained permanent contact with the representatives of their respective countries in Luanda.
