Description :
On the 24.11.1983, after establishing contact with both Israel and the PLO for many months, the ICRC led a significant operation to release some 4'400 prisoners detained by Israel in Insar and other locations.
The detainees in Insar received clothing from the ICRC, and more than a thousand of them were transferred in the night of the 23rd to the 24th of November to Tel-Aviv, where three planes lent by the French government brought them to Alger.
In just a few hours, more than 3'200 persons detained in Insar who wanted to stay in Lebanon were released, after ICRC delegates conducted a last identity check.
