Description :
Sexual violence is the most immediate and dangerous type of gender-based violence occuring in acute emergencies. While women and girls are by far the most frequent victims of sexual violence, emerging evidence shows that men and boys are also affected. During the past twelve months, the issue of sexual violence in conflict and emergencies has received an unprecedented attention at the highest political and institutional level leading to formal commitments by major humanitarian actors. Raising awareness and advocating for a much stronger commitment to action are paramount to addressing the issue in a more coherent, systematic and effective manner. However, at the same time the lack of a solid evidence-base to respond effectively to the needs of survivors of sexual violence has been stressed. Drawing on the experience and lessons learned of their organisations, panellists will debate the questions : How ca we do more and better ? Following the launch of the new thematic Seminar Sexual Violence in Conflict Settings and Emergencies, teh Geneva Centre for Education and Research in Humanitarian Action (CERAH) and the International Committee of the REd Cross (ICRC) are inviting you to a public conference.
