Description :
On 18.04 & 19.04 2007, ninety four soldiers from the Sudanese Armed Forces(SAF) previously held in eastern Chad by a Sudanese rebel group were released and repatriated to Al Fashir, North Darfur, under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The detainees, who were made prisoners during fighting that took place in October 2006 in Kariari (Sudan), were accompanied by an ICRC delegate and flown to Sudan on board of an ICRC aircraft.
ICRC delegates had previously met the detainees in order to monitor their conditions of detention and state of health, in accordance with international humanitarian law. Upon arrival in Al Fashir, they were handed over to Sudanese Armed Forces.
