The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) has added a new activity to enhance its humanitarian assistance to the people of Bangladesh. Since 25 October 2013, Red Crescent volunteers in Dhaka and Chittagong have been providing first-aid and medical evacuation services to people injured during politically motivated violence. The ICRC supports the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society emergency response.
On 25 October 2013, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society launched a first-aid and medical evacuation service for people injured during strikes, hartals, blockades and demonstrations.
During an initial stage, this service is available in the cities of Dhaka and Chittagong, where teams of trained staff and volunteers patrol the streets during political unrest.
As neutrality and impartiality are central to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society emergency medical service is available to anyone regardless of ideology, occupation, social status or religion.
