Description :
Floods and landslides struck Brazil on 12 January, and many people in remote areas still have no means of communicating with the wider world. Because of the satellite phones provided by the Brazilian Red Cross and the ICRC, a number of people in the areas affected have been able to reassure worried relatives that they are safe and well.
