Description : In Cité Soleil, one of the largest and most impoverished neighbourhoods in Port-au-Prince, upgrades to the water supply system carried out by the ICRC in close cooperation with the authorities have improved access to drinking water for some 200,000 residents.

Two pumping stations have been put back into operation after renovation work lasting six months. On 14 July, responsibility for running the stations was transferred to the national water board, which placed them under the authority of the technical operations centre of the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area.

The stations will supply water not only for Cité Soleil residents but also for other parts of Port-au-Prince connected to the water distribution network, which now has a capacity of over 320 cubic metres of water per day. Fifteen litres of water per person per day should be available to Cité Soleil residents at a very reasonable price.
