Yemen: Ten years of quenching thirst
Since it first started working in Yemen in 1962, the ICRC has strived to ensure a reliable supply of water to millions of civilians affected by the various conflicts that have plagued the country. This photo gallery illustrates the work of our engineers, who, by working closely with government ministries, water boards and local communities, quench the thirst of those living in conflict-affected areas. .
In recent years, the infrastructure in Sa'ada city, in the north of Yemen, has been badly affected by intermittent fighting between government forces and Houthis. Since 2008, the ICRC has provided the city’s population with water, trucking supplies to 40 distribution points, as well as fuel for generators. It has also carried out repairs to the water network in cooperation with local water boards.
