Description :
A bullet-ridden ambulance on the "esplanade" at HQ
23-04-2014 Intranet News
As part of the Health Care in Danger project, a replica of a bullet-ridden ambulance is being displayed at headquarters in Geneva to remind staff and visitors about the staggering reality of violence against health care (www.healthcareindanger.org). Developed by a professional film-designer on the basis of real damaged ambulances from Lebanon, Iraq and Libya, this exhibit was specifically created for the Council of Delegates in Sydney last November. The ambulance, peppered with bullet holes and with its doors ripped off by an explosion, provided a shocking sight for passers-by and was shared widely on social media.
As part of the Health Care in Danger campaign, the ambulance will continue to raise awareness of the need to improve the safety of health-care delivery in armed conflict. It was shipped to Geneva from Sydney for last week's Global Health Forum. Over the next few months, it will travel from Geneva to specific events. In between events it will remain on the "esplanade" at HQ, right next to the Health Care in Danger slogan on the side of Building 4 (la Rotonde).
