Description : During the last month, hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons flew from Bor due to the fightings and arrived in the temporary camp in Minkamen, 135 Km north of Juba in Lakes State.

Eight ICRC trucks left Juba on the morning of February 9th, 2014 containing around 150 tons of food (sorghum, beans, oil, sugar, salt and soap) to start a food distribution in Minkamen. The food distribution lasted about two weeks. The same trucks repeated the trip on almost daily basis. Given the difficult road, the trip can take up to 7 hours.

On February 10th, 2014 the ICRC started a food distribution that reached over 93,000 people during two weeks. The supplies each family received consist of 30 kg of sorghum, 10 kg of beans, 5 litres of oil, 1.25 kg of sugar, 500 g of salt and three bars of soap. Many families, mostly women, children and old people benefited from this food, easing somehow the harsh conditions they have endured since they started arriving to the area in the middle of December, 2013.

Most recipients are people who had to flee their homes because of violence, but the ICRC is also distributing emergency aid to the local residents who have been hosting them. The operation is being carried out by the ICRC, working with the South Sudan Red Cross.
